Ubaydullah bin Abu Rafi’ narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I should never find any one of you reclining on his cushion, and when a command from among our commands comes to him, which we had given, or something we had forbidden, he says: ‘I do not know; we did not find this in Allah’s Book, otherwise we would have followed it.’” Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sufyan narrated this; I have memorized the narrations of Ibn al-Munkadir better, I first heard this narration from him and I have also memorized this narration.
