Islamic guidance to pay debts before making a will
Hadith 56
56 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقِ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ: «قَضَي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالدَّيْنِ قَبْلَ الْوَصِيَّةِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ الْوَصِيَّةَ قَبْلَ الدَّيْنِ»
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) decreed that (the deceased’s) debt will be paid before acting upon the will, even though you people (in the Qur’an) read the mention of the will before the debt. 1 1 (This is a reference to the verse of the Noble Qur’an «من بعد وصية يوصى بها أو دين».)
