Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once, after performing the morning prayer, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came out from the house of Lady Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her). Her name was "Barrah." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) changed her name to Juwayriya. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not like it to be said that he had come from "Barrah" (meaning goodness or piety). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: After performing the morning prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left that woman's place, and when he returned to her, the day had advanced well. That woman was sitting on her prayer mat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "Have you been sitting here since then?" She replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After I left you, I recited four phrases three times. If what you have recited is weighed against these words, these words would outweigh them. (Those words are:) 'Allah is free from imperfection, and for Him is all praise, equal to the number of His creation, to His own pleasure, to the weight of His Throne, and to the ink of His words.'"

Benefit: In this hadith, one of the prescribed (masnun) remembrances (adhkar) after the Fajr prayer is mentioned, and along with it, its virtue is also described. Even if the deed is small, it should be in accordance with the Sunnah; this is of greater importance than a deed that is exhausting but contrary to the Sunnah.

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out from Juwayriyyah (wife of the Prophet). Earlier her name was Barrah, and he changed it. When he went out she was in her place of worship, and when he returned she was in her place of worship. He asked: Have you been in your place of worship continuously? She said: Yes. He then said: Since leaving you I have said three times four phrases which, if weighed against all that you have said (during this period), would prove to be heavier: "glory be to Allah", and I begin with praise of Him to the number of His creatures, in accordance with His good pleasure, to the weight of His throne and to the ink (extent) of His words.

1503. Commentary: ➊ It is not appropriate to give such names which imply self-praise. Likewise, names that carry a bad meaning. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to change such meanings. ➋ It is preferable to adopt a comprehensive and concise dhikr (remembrance). And the above-mentioned tasbih is extremely concise and comprehensive.
