Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand for the night prayer (tahajjud), he used to supplicate: “O Allah! All praise is due to You; You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. All praise is due to You; You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. All praise is due to You; You are the Sovereign of the heavens and the earth and all that is within them. All praise is due to You; You are the Truth, Your promise is true, meeting You is true, Hell is true, the Hour is true, (Sayyiduna) Muhammad (peace be upon him) is true, all the Prophets are true. O Allah! I have submitted to You, I have believed in You, I have relied upon You, I have turned to You, I have sought help through You, I have argued by You, so forgive me my past and future, my secret and open (sins). You are the Advancer, You are the Delayer, there is no deity except You (at this point, the narrator is unsure about some words).” Sufyan says: The narrator named Abdul Karim added these words: “Nothing can happen without Your help.” These words were not narrated by the narrator named Sulaiman.
