Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication which I may ask for." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abbas! Ask Allah, the Exalted, for forgiveness and well-being." He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a supplication which I may ask for." So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abbas! O uncle of the Messenger of Allah! Ask Allah, the Exalted, for forgiveness and well-being."
Imam Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The narrator named Sufyan, while narrating this tradition, sometimes transmits these words that Abdullah bin Harith narrated this, that Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah!" However, most of the time he narrated it as Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrating: He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!"
