Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I was not able to join the congregational morning prayer because so-and-so leads us in a long prayer.” The narrator says: I have never seen the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as angry while giving advice and admonition as he was that day. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Some of you make people dislike (the prayer), some of you make people dislike (the prayer). Whoever leads the people in prayer should make it short, because among the people are the elderly, the sick, the weak, and those who have work to do.”
