´It was narrated that Hudhaifah bin Yaman said:` "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I do not know how long I will stay among you, so follow the example of these two after I am gone,' and he pointed to Abu Bakr and `Umar."
Maulana Ataullah Sajid
Commentary: (1) In this, there is a clear indication towards the caliphate of the two Shaykhs (radi Allahu anhuma).
(2) The head of any institution, organization, or group should, through his training, prepare such individuals who can smoothly continue the work after him.
(3) The prominent individuals of the group should be given importance; however, the determination of the one who will assume the position after the leader will be done only through the consultation of the people of authority and decision (ahl al-hall wa’l-‘aqd).
(4) The opinion and ijtihad (independent reasoning) of the two Shaykhs is weightier and more valuable than the opinions of other noble Companions and great Imams; rather, it is worthy of being followed.
