Abdullah bin Aqeem narrates: We were with Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Mada'in. He asked a villager for water. The villager brought water to him in a vessel made of silver, so Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) threw it away. He was a person whose temperament had some sharpness. People disliked discussing this matter with him. Then Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) turned towards the people and said: I present my excuse before you; I should have mentioned earlier that such (a vessel) should not be given to me to drink from. Then he informed: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us and said: "Do not drink from vessels made of silver or gold, and do not use dibaj (brocade) and silk, for these are for them (the disbelievers) in this world, and for you in the Hereafter."
