Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman narrates: I used to see such dreams that would frighten me, but I would not be covered (i.e., I would not be so scared that I would get a fever). I went to the service of Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) and complained to him about this matter. He told me that he had heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A dream is from Allah Almighty, and a disturbing dream is from Satan. So when anyone sees a dream that he dislikes, he should spit three times to his left and seek refuge in Allah Almighty from the evil of what he has seen, and then that dream will not harm him."
