Asma bin Hakam Fazari narrates this statement from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): When I used to hear a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah Almighty would grant me benefit through that hadith as He willed. But when another person narrated a hadith to me, I would make him take an oath; when he would take the oath before me, I would accept his statement as true. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith to me, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke the truth. He stated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever commits a sin and then performs ablution and performs ablution well..." Here, the narrator named Mis'ar has narrated these words: "Then he performs prayer." While the narrator named Sufyan has narrated these words: "Then he performs two units of prayer and seeks forgiveness from Allah Almighty, then he is forgiven."
