It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him): A man came to him and said: My father is commanding me to divorce my wife. So Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “The father is the middle gate of Paradise. (It is up to you) whether you waste it or protect it.” The narrator named Sufyan sometimes narrated these words: My mother has commanded me this, and sometimes he narrated these words: My mother (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) or my father has commanded me this.

´It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman that:` a man's father or mother - Shu'bah (one of the namators) was not sure - ordered him to divorce his wife, and he made a vow that he would free one hundred slaves if he did that. He came to Abu Darda' while he was praying the Duha, and he was making his prayer lengthy, and he prayed between Zuhr and 'Asr. Then he asked him and Abu Darda' said: "Fulfill your vow and honor your parents." Abu Ad-Darda' said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: '(Honoring) one's father may lead one to enter through the best of the gates of Paradise; so take care of your parents, (it is so, whether you take care of them) or not. Benefits and Issues:
➊ Serving and obeying one’s parents is a means of entering Paradise.
➋ Keeping one’s parents pleased is the best means of entering Paradise.
➌ A believer has a great desire for Paradise; therefore, one should be very mindful of obeying one’s parents so that Paradise may be attained.
➍ If parents command something that is permissible according to the Shari‘ah, then it should be carried out, even if it is disagreeable to the heart. However, parents should also take into consideration the legitimate feelings of their children.
➎ The noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) were very eager for voluntary acts of worship (nawafil); therefore, one should strive to perform as many voluntary acts of worship as possible according to one’s capacity, provided that this does not cause any shortcoming in the rights of others (huquq al-‘ibad).

´Abu Darda' heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say that:` "The father is the middle door of Paradise (i.e. the best way to Paradise), so it is up to you whether you take advantage of it or not."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Serving the father is an important means of entering Paradise.
➋ Wasting (losing) means that if you anger your father, the door of Paradise will not be opened for you; in this way, you will lose the door of Paradise.
➌ Preserving means that if you please your father, then surely the door of Paradise will be opened for you.
➍ If the father commands something that involves the displeasure of Allah, then it is not permissible to obey the father; however, even in this situation, serving and respecting the father remains necessary.
