Hadith 363
363 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ السِّخْتِيَانِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نُغَسِّلُ ابْنَتَهُ فَقَالَ: «اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا، أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا، أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي» فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ، فَأَلْقَي إِلَيْنَا حِقْوَهُ فَقَالَ: «أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ»
Lady Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us when we were about to wash his daughter. He (peace be upon him) said: “Wash her three or five times, or more if you think appropriate, with water and lotus leaves, and at the end add camphor (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) — add a little camphor. When you are finished, inform me.” The lady narrates: When we finished and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he gave us his sheet and instructed: “Wrap her body in it.”
