Sayyida Baqirah (may Allah be pleased with her), who is the wife of Sayyiduna Qa‘qa‘ bin Abu Hudud (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying on the pulpit: "O people! When you hear about an army that has been swallowed by the earth, then (know that) the Day of Judgment is near."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
In this hadith, one of the major signs of the Day of Judgment is mentioned. The meaning of "soon they will be swallowed up" is that this army will be swallowed up by the earth near the land of Madinah or Makkah. The details of this are found in this hadith: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "A person seeking refuge will take refuge in the House of Allah (the Ka'bah), and an army will be sent towards him. When this army reaches an open plain, it will be swallowed up by the earth." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! What will happen to those who were compelled to be part of this army?" He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied: "They too will be swallowed up along with the army, but on the Day of Resurrection, each person will be raised according to his intention." (Sahih Muslim: 2882)
