Sayyida Umm Khalid bint Khalid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave. The narrator named Musa bin Uqbah says: I have not heard this from anyone else, that anyone other than Sayyida Umm Khalid (may Allah be pleased with her) heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave.

Benefit: It is established from this hadith that the punishment of the grave is a reality, and one should seek refuge with Allah from it. There are countless ahadith affirming the punishment of the grave, for example: The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: «نعم ، عذاب القبر حق » (Yes, the punishment of the grave is a reality) (Agreed upon).
In one hadith, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: (In the grave) it will be said to the disbeliever: Who is your Lord? He will reply: I do not know. At that moment, he will become mute, deaf, and blind, and he will be struck with such a hammer that if it were to be struck upon a mountain, it would turn to dust. Everyone except humans and jinn hears his scream. (Sunan Abi Dawud: 4750, Sunan Tirmidhi: 3120, graded sahih by al-Albani)
Remember, to deny or interpret away an issue established by the Qur’an and Sunnah merely on the basis of corrupt reasoning is a great misguidance and tantamount to destroying one’s Hereafter. The punishment of the grave is a matter of creed; our belief is that the punishment of the grave is a reality.

Narrated Musa bin `Uqba: (From the daughter of Khalid bin Sa id bin Al-`Asi) who said that she had heard the Prophet seeking refuge with Allah from the punishment in the grave.

Hadith Commentary: (1) In the narration of Tabarani, it is stated that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave, for indeed the punishment of the grave is true." (Fath al-Bari: 3/307) This narration also explains the previous narration: when the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave without hearing its sound, then seeking refuge upon hearing the sound is established all the more so.
(2) The author has also mentioned this narration in the Book of Supplications (Kitab al-Da‘awat). From this, it is evident that, apart from Umm Khalid (radi Allahu anha), no other Companion narrated this hadith. (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Da‘awat, Hadith: 6364)
