Hadith 330

Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best charity is that which is given to a relative who harbors enmity." Sufyan says: I have not heard this narration from Zuhri.

Imam Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The meaning of the word «كاشح» (used in the text of the narration) is 'enemy.'

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
This hadith proves that one should give charity and alms even to an enemy, especially when the enemy is among close relatives. When Munazir-e-Islam Hafiz Thanaullah Amritsari rahimahullah was subjected to an assassination attempt, he was severely injured. When his condition improved somewhat, he inquired about the state of the attacker. People informed him that the attacker was in prison and that there was no one to provide for his children at home. Upon hearing this, Munazir-e-Islam Amritsari rahimahullah sent a considerable amount of provisions from his own home to the attacker's family and continued to look after them until the attacker was released from prison.
