Sayyida Zaynab bint Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from her mother, Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about a matter: She said, "O Messenger of Allah! Allah does not shy away from the truth. If a woman experiences a wet dream, is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon her?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If a woman sees water, then she must perform ghusl." Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked, "Does a woman also have wet dreams?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "May your hand be covered in dust! Then on what basis does the child resemble her?"
