239 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ الْجُمَحِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَا خَالَطَتِ الصَّدَقَةُ مَالًا قَطُّ إِلَّا أَهْلَكَتْهُ» قَالَ: قَدْ يَكُونُ قَدْ وَجَبَ عَلَيْكَ فِي مَالِكَ صَدَقَةٌ فَلَا تُخْرِجُهَا فَيُهْلِكَ الْحَرَامُ الْحَلَالَ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالْحَالِ
Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: She heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Charity (i.e., zakat wealth) when mixed with any other wealth destroys it." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sometimes zakat becomes obligatory upon your wealth, and if you do not give it, the unlawful destroys the lawful."

It is established from this hadith that zakat must certainly be given; otherwise, even lawful wealth is destroyed and its blessing does not remain. It is regrettable that nowadays most people do not give zakat, and this is the very reason that even the wealth of millionaires is devoid of blessing.
