Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It is not permissible for any woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for any deceased person for more than three days, except in the case of her husband, for whom the ruling is different.” Sufyan was asked: Should the woman mourn for her husband for four months and ten days? Sufyan said: Al-Zuhri did not mention these words in his narration before us; these words were mentioned before us in the narration of Ayyub bin Musa.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit: In this hadith, it is stated that when a man passes away, his close female relatives may observe mourning (sog) for three days; that is, for three days they will not wear colorful clothes and will spend these days in simplicity. It is incorrect for some people to restrict mourning to men; mourning pertains only to women. If a woman's husband passes away, then she will observe mourning for four months and ten days.
