Abdur Rahman bin Qasim narrates from his father: He heard Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) saying: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj, we also set out with him. Our intention was only to perform Hajj, until when I reached the place of Sarif or came near it, I began menstruating. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, and I was crying. He (peace be upon him) asked: "What has happened to you? Have you started menstruating?" I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam. Perform all the rites that the pilgrims perform, except do not perform the Tawaf of the House (Ka'bah)." Sayyida Aisha narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed a cow on behalf of his wives.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit: From this hadith, it is understood that the rulings of menstruation (hayd) and postnatal bleeding (nifas) are the same, as the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used the term nifas for menstruation. It is also understood that during Hajj, a menstruating woman can perform the rites of Hajj at Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah; she is only prohibited from performing the circumambulation (tawaf) of the House of Allah and the sa’i between Safa and Marwah. Furthermore, this hadith also shows that a husband can offer the sacrifice (udhiyah) on behalf of his wives. In this hadith, it is also mentioned that menstruation has been decreed upon the daughters of Adam. Some have said that menstruation began with the women of Banu Isra’il. Refuting this, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah states: How did menstruation begin? The statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is: “Menstruation is something that Allah, the Exalted, has ordained for the daughters of Adam.” Some individuals say: Menstruation was first imposed upon Banu Isra’il. Abu Abdullah (Imam Bukhari rahimahullah) says: The hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam includes all women. (Sahih al-Bukhari, before Hadith 294) The narration to which Imam Bukhari rahimahullah alluded regarding the beginning of menstruation, that it was first imposed upon Banu Isra’il, is the statement of Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud radi Allahu anhu, which is found in (Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1700, al-Mukhtarah li-Diya’ al-Maqdisi Hadith 9516). After quoting this statement, Imam Ibn Khuzaymah says: “This report is mawquf (stopped at the Companion), not musnad (attributed to the Prophet).” Imam Bukhari rahimahullah gave preference to the marfu’ (Prophetic) hadith over the mawquf narration. The correct view is that from the very beginning, menstruation was decreed upon the daughters of Adam, and this is the methodology of the people of hadith (Ahl al-Hadith): that in every matter, they give preference to the statement of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. This is what «اطيعوا الله واطيعوا الرسول» demands. Imam Bukhari rahimahullah derived thirty-five rulings from this hadith, the details of which we have explained in our commentary Anwar al-Qulub li’l-Qari bi-Fawa’id Sahih al-Bukhari. «يسر الله لنا اتمامه».
