Hadith 146

Hassan bin Bilal Muzani narrates: A person was shown to Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) who was passing his fingers through his beard while performing ablution. Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: Do you also pass your fingers through your beard? He replied: Why should I not do so, when I have seen the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passing his fingers through his blessed beard.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
Combing through the beard (khilal) is obligatory. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam combed through his beard, then said: « هـكـذا أمـرنـي ربي» In the same way, my Lord has commanded me. (Sunan Abi Dawud: 451, Hasan — and see: Al-Irwa: 1/135) The command (amr) is for obligation. From this hadith, the obligation of keeping the beard is also established. It is unfortunate that the Ummah of Salamah, by following the Jews and Christians, is opposing this great obligation.
