Hadith 1324

1324 - حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَي، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «قَضَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَزَادَنِي»
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) paid me (what was due), and he (peace be upon him) paid me more than what was due.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefit:
It is established from this hadith that one should repay a loan, and it is recommended to give something extra as a gift. The extra amount given is not considered usury (riba); however, if the lender stipulates this extra at the time of giving the loan, then it is usury.
