Hadith 1314

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people for allegiance, he found among us a man whose name was Jad bin Qais, hiding under the side of his camel.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
In the era of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, whenever an agreement was made with someone, a pledge (bay‘ah) would be taken from them. This pledge was also taken when women migrated, as is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari under the commentary of Surah al-Mumtahanah. In addition, on the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also took the pledge from the women of Quraysh. When taking the pledge from women, he would only take their verbal commitment. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam never touched the hand of any woman. Lady A’ishah radi Allahu anha says: “By Allah! The hand of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam never touched the hand of any woman at the time of taking the pledge. While taking the pledge, he would only say: ‘I have taken your pledge on these matters.’”
