Narration on Virtuous Deeds and Helping a Slave
Hadith 131
131 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ: ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ أَبِي مُرَاوِحٍ الْغِفَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «إِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ وَجِهَادٌ فِي سَبِيلِهِ» قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَأَيُّ الرِّقَابِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «أَغْلَاهَا أَثْمَانًا وَأَنْفَسُهَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِهَا» قُلْتُ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أَقْدِرْ عَلَي ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: «فَتُعِينُ صَانِعًا أَوْ تَصْنَعُ لِأَخْرَقَ» قُلْتُ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «فَتَكُفُّ أَذَاكَ عَنِ النَّاسِ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةُ تَصَّدَّقُ بِهَا عَلَي نَفْسِكَ»
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is the most virtuous?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To have faith in Allah and to strive in the way of Allah." Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked, "Which slave is the most virtuous?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one whose price is highest and who is most excellent in the sight of his master." I asked, "What if I am not able to do that?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then help someone who is working, or do some work for someone who is ignorant or (disabled)."
