Hadith 128

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person stands for prayer, mercy is facing him, so he should not wipe his hand over the pebbles." Sufyan says: Sa‘d bin Ibrahim asked him: Who is Abu’l-Ahwas? It is as if Sa‘d expressed displeasure at Zuhri for narrating a hadith from an unknown person whom he did not know, so Zuhri said to him: Do you not know that elderly slave of Banu Ghifar who used to pray in the garden? So Zuhri kept describing him, but Sa‘d bin Ibrahim could not recognize him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Muhammad Ibrahim bin Basheer
Benefit:
Every action in prayer is prohibited which causes a person's attention to become occupied elsewhere. However, if there is dust or the like on the prayer row (saff), then it is permissible to clean it once during the prayer. From this, it is also established that the mercy of Allah, the Exalted, is directed towards the one praying. How unfortunate are those Muslims who are heedless in prayer—as if they are showing indifference to the mercy of Allah, the Exalted.
