Musnad al-Humaydi

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent three hundred horsemen of us on an expedition. Our commander was Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him). We were lying in wait for a caravan of the Quraysh. We were overtaken by severe hunger, to the extent that we were forced to eat leaves, so this army was named "the army of leaves." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A sea creature appeared before us from the sea while we were on the shore; it is called "ambergris." We ate its meat for fifteen days. We ate bread with its oil and applied its fat to our bodies until we became plump and healthy. Then Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) set up one of its ribs upright. Then he examined the tallest man and the highest camel in the army, then ordered that man to mount the camel and pass under the rib, so the man did so and passed beneath it. We then presented ourselves before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about this. He asked: "Do you have any part of it with you?" We replied: No, we do not!
