1272 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " دَخَلْتُ الْجَنَّةَ فَرَأَيْتُ فِيهَا قَصْرًا، أَوْ دَارًا، فَسَمِعْتُ فِيهَا ضَوْضَاةً، فَقُلْتُ: لِمَنْ هَذَا؟ فَقِيلَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، فَرَجَوْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا هُوَ، فَقِيلَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ: فَلَوْلَا غَيْرَتُكَ يَا أَبَا حَفْصٍ لَدَخَلْتُهُ "، قَالَ: فَبَكَي عُمَرُ، وَقَالَ: أَيُغَارَ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I entered Paradise and I saw in it a palace (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) or a house. I heard a voice in it. I asked: Whose is this? It was said to me: It belongs to a man from the Quraysh. I hoped that it would be mine, but I was told: It is Umar bin Khattab's. O Abu Hafs! If I had not considered your temperament's intensity, I would have entered it." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep and said: O Messenger of Allah! Could anyone be angry in your presence?

The aforementioned woman, named Rumaysa, is the respected mother of Anas radi Allahu anhu.
This word is derived from "ramas."
"Ramas" refers to the discharge found in the eyes; since there would often be discharge in her eyes, she became well-known by this title.

Hadith Commentary:

Both of these hadiths contain the great virtue of Umar radi Allahu anhu, that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam saw in a dream his palace in Paradise, in which his wife was performing ablution (wudu).
This ablution was to enhance her beauty, because in Paradise there is no continuation of fulfilling the legal rulings (shar‘i ahkam).

The hadith of Jabir actually consists of three hadiths.
It mentions a woman named Rumaysa, who was the wife of Abu Talha radi Allahu anhu, the mother of Anas radi Allahu anhu, and the foster maternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Her name is Sahlah and her kunyah is Umm Sulaym.

The weeping of Umar radi Allahu anhu was due to happiness and joy.
In one narration, Umar radi Allahu anhu said:
“O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! It is because of you that we received guidance and this lofty status, so would I be jealous of you?”
(Fath al-Bari: 7/57, 58)

From this hadith, the virtue and protective jealousy (ghayrah) of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu are established. Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu was also given the glad tidings of Paradise in this world. Despite being so courageous, Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu was very soft-hearted when it came to matters of the religion.
From this hadith, the virtue and protective jealousy (ghayrah) of Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu are established.
