Hadith 1252

1252 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ: لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ أَسْهَمَ النَّاسَ الْمَنَازِلَ، فَطَارَ سَهْمُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَلَي سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ سَعْدٌ: تَعَالَ حَتَّي أُقَاسِمَكَ مَالِي، وَأَنْزِلَ لَكَ عَنْ أَيِّ امْرَأَتَيَّ شِئْتَ، فَأَكْفِيَكَ الْعَمَلَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ: بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ فِي أَهْلِكَ وَمَالِكَ، دُلُّونِي عَلَي السُّوقِ، فَخَرَجَ، فَأَصَابَ شَيْئًا فَخَطَبَ امْرَأَةً، فَتَزَوَّجَهَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «عَلَي كَمْ تَزَوَّجْتَهَا؟» ، قَالَ: عَلَي نَوَاةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَوْلِمْ وَلَوْ بِشَاةٍ»

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah. People were accommodated in different places. Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed as a guest with Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). So Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Come, I will divide my wealth with you, and whichever of my wives you wish, I will part with her and you may marry her in my place. So Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: May Allah bless you in your family and your wealth! Just show me the way to the market. Then Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the market, earned some income, and then sent a proposal to a woman and married her. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: “For how much mahr did you marry her?” He replied: For a gold nugget. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Give a wedding feast (walimah), even if it is with just one goat.”
