Hadith 1242
1242- حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ، أَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ سَمِعْنَا مِنْهُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ: عَطِسَ رَجُلَانِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَشَمَّتَ أَوْ سَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا، وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتْ، أَوْ لَمْ يُسَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ شَمَّتْ أَوْ سَمَّتْ هَذَا، وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي، أَوْ تُسَمَّتْنِي، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ هَذَا حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَحْمَدْهُ» ¤
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), two men sneezed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) responded to one of them but did not respond to the other. The latter said, "O Messenger of Allah! You responded to him but did not respond to me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "He praised Allah, but you did not praise Allah."
