1241 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ: «مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجِدَ عَلَي سَرِيَّةٍ قَطُّ مَا وَجِدَ عَلَي أَصْحَابِ بِئْرِ مَعُونَةَ حِينَ قُتِلُوا، وَكَانُوا يُسَمَّوْنَ الْقُرَّاءَ» ¤
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I have never seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as grieved over any military expedition as he was over the martyrdom of the people of "Bi’r Ma‘unah." These individuals were called "the Reciters."
