Hadith 120

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We asked about this matter, that is, we asked about the souls of the martyrs, so it was told that they are placed in the bellies of green birds and they reside in lanterns under the Throne. They fly wherever they wish in Paradise. Their Lord turns towards them and asks: Do you desire anything more from Me, so that I may grant you more? They reply: What more could we desire, while we are in Paradise and can go wherever we wish in it? Then their Lord turns towards them and says: Do you desire anything more so that I may grant you that as well? When they see that they must surely ask for something, they say: Return our souls to our bodies so that we may be martyred once again in Your path.

Benefit:
In this blessed hadith, the tremendous virtues of the martyrs are established: how they will be granted a lofty status in Paradise with great honor, and they will also behold Allah, and they will wish to return to the world and be martyred again—Subhan Allah. Paradise is true, and its blessings are true.

SG Warning EG: The person who is killed in battle should not be declared with certainty as a definite martyr; rather, it should be said, “In sha Allah, he is a martyr.” In the present era, some people have introduced various innovations regarding the martyrs; may Allah guide them to the correct methodology, ameen.
