Benefit: In this hadith, certain rulings regarding slaves have been mentioned. For example, the food and clothing of the slave are the responsibility of the owner, and the owner may assign work to the slave according to his capacity; to overburden him is forbidden. The slave referred to here is that person who, for instance, comes into the possession of Muslims from the disbelievers in war, etc. The servants and workers employed in homes nowadays are not legal (shar‘i) slaves; however, good treatment towards them has also been emphasized.
