Narration on Advising Youth to Marry or Fast
Hadith 115
115 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا مَعْشَرَ الشَّبَابِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمُ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَنْكِحْ فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ، وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، وَمَنْ لَا فَلْيَصُمْ فَإِنَّ الصَّوْمَ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "O group of young men! Whoever among you has the ability to marry should get married, for it lowers the gaze and protects the private parts more. And whoever does not have the ability should observe fasting, for fasting will diminish his desire."
