Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When a man’s slave-girl commits adultery and her adultery becomes evident, he should flog her, but he should not verbally abuse her. Then if the slave-girl commits adultery again and her adultery is proven, he should again flog her as a prescribed punishment, but he should not verbally abuse her. If she does it again and her adultery becomes evident again, then he should sell her, even if it is in exchange for a rope made of hair.” The word “dhafeer” means rope.
