Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not prepare nabidh in dubba’ and muzaffat." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) added from himself: Also avoid (using) hantam and naqir. (Dubba’, muzaffat, hantam, and naqir are four types of vessels in which wine was drunk during the time of ignorance, so the vessels were prohibited so that seeing them would not incline one’s nature towards it.)

Benefit: Initially, the ruling was that nabidh should not be prepared in these vessels, because nabidh in these vessels would quickly take on the form of wine. However, later the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam permitted the preparation of nabidh in these vessels. The details of this are found in Sahih Muslim (977). Also, in Sahih Muslim (17), four types of vessels are mentioned, of which two vessels were mentioned separately by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu on his own accord, and their mention is also found in the marfu‘ hadith.
