Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, it is my wish that I be martyred in the way of Allah, then brought back to life, then martyred again, then brought back to life, then martyred again." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said these words three times: "I make Allah the witness."

Benefit: From this hadith, the virtue of being martyred on the battlefield is established. Martyrdom (shahadah) is such a spiritual delight that every believer wishes to attain it. It is also proven from this that one should have the desire for martyrdom in the path of Allah, and should remain engaged in striving for it. Insha Allah, such a person will attain the rank of martyrdom, even if he passes away on his bed. O Allah! Grant us the death of martyrdom, Ameen.
