Hadith 1020
1020 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْنَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ: «فِي كُلِّ الصَّلَاةِ اقْرَأَ، فَمَا أَسْمَعَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْمَعْنَاكُمْ، وَمَا أَخْفَي مِنَّا أَخْفَيْنَا مِنْكُمْ، كُلُّ صَلَاةٍ لَا يُقْرَأُ فِيهَا بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ، فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ» ، فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قَرَأَتُ بِهَا وَحْدَهَا تُجْزِئُ عَنِّي؟ قَالَ: «إِنِ انْتَهَيْتَ إِلَيْهَا أَجْزَأَتْ عَنْكَ، فَإِنْ زِدْتَ فَهُوَ أَحْسَنُ»
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I recite in every prayer, however, in those prayers in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite aloud, we also recite aloud in front of you, and in those prayers in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite quietly, we also recite quietly in front of you. Any prayer in which Surah Al-Fatihah is not recited is incomplete. A man asked Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): What is your opinion? If I only recite Surah Al-Fatihah, will it be permissible for me? Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: If you only recite it, then it will be permissible for you, but if you recite more along with it, then that will be better.
