Hadith 1019

1019 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُلَيْحَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّعْدِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: «إِنَّ الَّذِي يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ وَيَخْفِضُهُ قَبْلَ الْإِمَامِ، فَإِنَّمَا نَاصِيتُهُ بِيَدِ شَيْطَانٍ» ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: «وَقَدْ كَانَ سُفْيَانَ رُبَّمَا رَفَعَهُ وَرُبَّمَا لَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ»

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whoever raises or lowers his head before the Imam, his forehead is in the hand of Satan.
Imam Abu Bakr Humaydi narrates: Sufyan sometimes transmits this narration as a "Marfu‘" (attributed to the Prophet) hadith. Sometimes he does not transmit it as a "Marfu‘" hadith.
