Qasim narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): Recite (the Qur’an)! So he said: Should I recite it to you while it has been revealed to you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I like to hear it from someone other than myself.” Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I began to recite Surah An-Nisa, until I reached this verse: “Then how will it be when We bring from every nation a witness, and We bring you as a witness over these?” At that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to weep, so Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) stopped.
