Hadith of Malik ibn Hubayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 16724
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ ، عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ يَمُوتُ ، فَيُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ أُمَّةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يْبَلَغُوا أَنْ يَكُونُوا ثَلَاثَ صُفُوفٍ إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ " ، قَالَ : فَكَانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ يَتَحَرَّى إِذَا قَلَّ أَهْلُ جَنَازَةٍ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهُمْ ثَلَاثَ صُفُوفٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Hubayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a believing servant passes away and a group of Muslims, equal to three rows, offers his funeral prayer, he is forgiven. The narrator says that for this reason, whenever there were fewer participants at a funeral, Sayyiduna Malik bin Hubayrah would make special arrangements to divide them into three rows.
