حَدِيثُ ذِي الْيَدَيْنِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Hadith of Dhu al-Yadayn (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 16707
(حديث مرفوع) قال عَبْد اللَّهِ بن أحمد : حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَعْدِيُّ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْثُ بْنُ مُطَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مُطَيْرٍ ، ومُطَيْرٌ حَاضِرٌ يُصَدِّقُهُ مَقَالَته : كَيْفَ كُنْتُ أَخْبَرْتُكَ ؟ ، قَالَ : يَا أَبَتَاهُ ، أَخْبَرْتَنِي أَنَّكَ لَقِيَكَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ بِذِي خُشُبٍ ، فَأَخْبَرَكَ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِهِمْ إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيْ الْعَشِيِّ وَهِيَ الْعَصْرُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَخَرَجَ سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ : أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ ؟ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاتَّبَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا وَهُمَا مُبْتَدَّيْه ، فَلَحِقَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا قَصُرَتْ الصَّلاَة ، وَلَا نَسِيتُ " ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فَقَالَ : " مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ؟ " ، فَقَالَا : صَدَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَرَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَثَابَ النَّاسُ ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْ السَّهْوِ ، قَالَ أَبُو سُلَيْمَانَ حَدَّثْتُ سِتَّ سِنِينَ ، أَوْ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، وَشَكَكْتُ فِيهِ ، وَهُوَ أَكْثَرُ حِفْظِي .
Ma'di bin Sulaiman says that once Mutair said to his son Shu'ayth bin Mutair, "How did I narrate that tradition to you?" Shu'ayth replied, "Father! You told me that at the place of Dhi Khushub, Sayyiduna Dhul-Yadayn met you, and he told you that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the Zuhr or Asr prayer—most likely Asr—and ended the prayer after only two rak'ahs. The hasty people, seeing this, left the mosque saying that the prayer had been shortened. Meanwhile, the Prophet (peace be upon him) also stood up, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar followed behind him, when Dhul-Yadayn came from the front and said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Has the prayer been shortened or did you forget?' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'Neither has the prayer been shortened nor did I forget.' Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) turned towards the two Shaykhs and said, 'What is Dhul-Yadayn saying?' Both replied, 'O Messenger of Allah! He is speaking the truth.' So the Prophet (peace be upon him) returned, and the people also returned, and he led two more rak'ahs, and after saying salam, performed the prostration of forgetfulness (sajda sahw)."
Hadith 16708
(حديث مرفوع) قال عَبْد اللَّهِ بن أحمد : حَدَّثَنِي نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مَعْدِيُّ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ مُطَيْرًا لِأَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ حَدِيثِ ذِي الْيَدَيْنِ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يُنْفِذُ الْحَدِيثَ مِنَ الْكِبَرِ ، فَقَالَ ابْنُهُ شُعَيْثٌ : بَلَى ، يَا أَبَتِ ، حَدَّثَتْنِي أَنَّ ذَا الْيَدَيْنِ لَقِيَكَ بِذِي خُشُبٍ ، فَحَدَّثَكَ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى بِهِمْ إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيْ الْعَشِيِّ وَهِيَ الْعَصْرُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، فَخَرَجَ سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ ، فَقَالَ : أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ ؟ وَفِي الْقَوْمِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرُ ، فَقَالَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ : أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ ؟ ، قَالَ : " مَا قَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ وَلَا نَسِيتُ " ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فَقَالَ : " مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ؟ " ، فَقَالَا : صَدَقَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَرَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَثَابَ النَّاسُ ، وَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ بِهِمْ سَجْدَتَيْ السَّهْوِ .

Hadith 16709
(حديث موقوف) قال قال عَبْد اللَّهِ بن أحمد : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، فَقَالَ مَا كَانَ مَنْزِلَةُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْزِلَتُهُمَا السَّاعَةَ " .
Ibn Abu Hazim says that a man came to Sayyiduna Ali bin Husayn (Imam Zain ul Abideen) and asked, "What is the status and rank of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar with the Prophet (peace be upon him)?" He replied, "The same as they have now." Benefit: Just as they are companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) now, they were in the world and will be in the Hereafter as well, inshaAllah.
