It is narrated from an Ansari companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Horses are of three kinds: (1) Those horses which a person prepares for the path of Allah for jihad—their price is a source of reward, riding them is a source of reward, lending them is a source of reward, and feeding them is also a source of reward. (2) Those horses which entrap a person in the shell of arrogance, and he participates them in races for betting—their price is a source of burden and feeding them is also a source of burden. (3) Those horses which serve a person’s livelihood—soon these horses will become a means to remove his poverty and hunger, insha’Allah.
