Hadith of Umm ‘Uthman bint Sufyan, who is the mother of the major Banu Shaybah
Hadith 16636
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عُثْمَانَ ابْنَةِ سُفْيَانَ ، وَهِيَ أُمُّ بَنِي شَيْبَةَ الْأَكَابِرِ ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : وَقَدْ بَايَعَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَعَا شَيْبَةَ فَفَتَحَ ، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ الْبَيْتَ وَرَجَعَ وَفَرَغَ وَرَجَعَ شَيْبَةُ إِذَا رَسُولُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَجِبْ ، فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ قَرْنًا فَغَيِّبْهُ " ، قَالَ مَنْصُورٌ : فَحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُسَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّي ، عَنْ أُمِّ عُثْمَانَ بِنْتِ سُفْيَانَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ فِي الْحَدِيثِ : " فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي الْبَيْتِ شَيْءٌ يُلْهِي الْمُصَلِّينَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umm Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called for Shaybah and opened the door of the Ka'bah, entered the House of Allah, and when he finished and left, Shaybah also went back. In the meantime, a messenger of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came again to call Shaybah. When he presented himself again, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I saw a horn in the House of Allah; remove it from there. And in another narration, there is also this addition: There should not be anything in the House of Allah that distracts those who are praying.
