It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the battle against Hawazin. The Prophet (peace be upon him) camped at a certain place. A spy from the polytheists came to gather information. At that time, the Prophet (peace be upon him) was having breakfast with his companions. They treated him as a guest and invited him to eat. When the man finished eating, he mounted his ride and set off to warn his companions. A man from the tribe of Aslam, who was riding a fine ash-colored she-camel, went after him, and I also ran out and caught up with him. The she-camel’s head was at the camel’s hindquarters, and I was at the camel’s hindquarters. I moved a little ahead and got close to the camel’s hindquarters, then got a little closer and grabbed the reins of his camel. I made his mount sit down, and when it sat, I struck his neck and killed him. I took his mount and his equipment and drove them towards the Prophet (peace be upon him). On the way, I met the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Who killed this man? The people said: Ibn Akwa’ did. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: His equipment also belongs to him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we set out with Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had appointed as our leader. We were going to fight against Banu Fazarah. When we reached a place near water, Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar ordered us and we camped there. After offering the Fajr prayer, he commanded us to attack the enemy, and we fell upon them and killed many people near that stream. Suddenly, I saw a swift group heading towards the mountain, among whom were women and children. I set off after them, but then I feared that they might reach the mountain before me, so I shot an arrow towards them, which landed between them and the mountain. Then I drove them towards Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar and brought them to him near that stream. Among them was a woman from Banu Fazarah who was wearing a leather cloak, and with her was her daughter, who was one of the most beautiful girls among the Arabs. Sayyiduna Siddiq Akbar gave that daughter to me as a reward. I did not even lift her veil until we reached Madinah Munawwarah. Even when night fell, I did not lift her veil. The next day, I met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the marketplace. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, “Salamah! Give me that woman as a gift.” I replied, “O Messenger of Allah! She is dear to me, and I have not even lifted her veil yet.” Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and left me. The next day, I again met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the marketplace, and he repeated his request and made me swear by my father. I swore and said, “O Messenger of Allah! She is dear to me, and I have not even lifted her veil yet. But O Messenger of Allah! Now I give her to you.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent that girl to the people of Makkah, in whose custody were many Muslim prisoners. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered that girl in exchange for ransom and thus freed the prisoners.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, my uncle challenged Marhab the Jew to a duel. Marhab said, “Khaybar knows that I am Marhab, armed with weapons, brave, and experienced, when the fire of battle blazes.” My uncle ‘Amir also recited these poetic verses: “Khaybar knows that I am ‘Amir, armed with weapons and fearless, plunging into battle.” Sayyiduna Salamah says that ‘Amir and Marhab began to strike at each other in different ways. Marhab’s sword struck ‘Amir’s shield, and ‘Amir struck Marhab with his sword from below, but Sayyiduna ‘Amir’s own sword recoiled and struck himself, cutting his jugular vein, and as a result, he was martyred.
Sayyiduna Salamah says, “I came out and saw some of the noble Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and they were saying, ‘The deed of Sayyiduna ‘Amir has been wasted; he has killed himself.’” Sayyiduna Salamah says, “When I heard this, I came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) weeping and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Has ‘Amir’s deed been wasted?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Who said this?’ I replied, ‘Some people among your Companions have said so.’ He said, ‘Whoever said it, said wrong; rather, for ‘Amir there is double reward.’”
When ‘Amir set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) towards Khaybar, he began to recite poetic verses: “By Allah! If Allah had not helped us, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor would we have prayed. These people intend to rebel against us, but whenever they intend any mischief, we refuse to be part of it. And (O Allah) we are not independent of Your bounty, and keep us steadfast when we meet the enemy, and (O Allah) send down tranquility upon us.” When these poetic verses were heard, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Who is this?” They replied, “O Messenger of Allah! It is ‘Amir.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “May your Lord forgive you.” The narrator says that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) specifically prayed for forgiveness for someone, that person would surely attain the rank of martyrdom.
Sayyiduna Salamah says that Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Khattab was on his camel, and when he heard this, he called out in a loud voice, “O Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Why did you not let us benefit from ‘Amir?” Then ‘Amir advanced and was martyred. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Sayyiduna ‘Ali. He said, “I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.” Sayyiduna Salamah says, “I brought ‘Ali (supporting him) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) because ‘Ali’s eyes were sore. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) applied his saliva to Sayyiduna ‘Ali’s eyes, and they were cured at that very moment. He gave him the flag, and Marhab came out saying, ‘Khaybar knows that I am Marhab, armed with weapons, brave, and experienced, when the fire of battle blazes.’”
Then Sayyiduna ‘Ali replied, “I am the one whose mother named me Haidar, like the lion that is terrifying in the forests. I give people a measure greater than a sa’ in exchange.” Sayyiduna Salamah says, “Then Sayyiduna ‘Ali struck Marhab on the head, and he was killed, and Khaybar was conquered at the hands of Sayyiduna ‘Ali.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the time of Hudaybiyyah, we were coming along with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I and the Prophet’s slave Rabah set out behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I took the horse of Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah, intending to join it with the camels. But in the darkness before dawn, Abdur Rahman bin Uyainah attacked the camels of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), killed the shepherd, and, along with his companions, mounted on horses, drove away the camels. Sayyiduna Salamah says: I said, “O Rabah! Take this horse and deliver it to Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah and inform the Messenger of Allah that the polytheists have looted your camels.” Then I stood on a hillock and, facing towards Madinah, I called out in a very loud voice, “Ya Sabahah!” Then (after that) I set out after those robbers, shooting arrows at them and reciting rajaz poetry: “I am the son of Akwa’, and today is the day of these wretches’ destruction.” Sayyiduna Salamah says: By Allah! I kept shooting arrows at them continuously and kept wounding them. Whenever any of their riders turned towards me, I would come under a tree and sit at its root, then shoot him with an arrow, which would wound him. This continued until they entered a narrow mountain pass, and I climbed the mountain and started throwing stones at them from above. Sayyiduna Salamah says: I kept pursuing them until there was not a single camel that Allah had created and which belonged to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that I had not left behind me. Sayyiduna Salamah says: Then I kept shooting arrows at them until, to lighten their load, they threw away thirty cloaks and more than thirty spears, except that whatever they threw, I would mark it with stones like a mile-marker so that the Messenger of Allah and his companions would recognize it, until they reached a narrow pass and Uyainah bin Badr al-Fazari also joined them. All the people sat down to eat lunch, and I sat on the top of the mountain. Fazari said, “Who is this man watching us?” The people said, “This man has greatly troubled us. By Allah! Since the dark night, he has taken everything we had.” Fazari said, “Let four of you stand up against him and kill him.” Sayyiduna Salamah says: (Upon hearing this) four men from among them climbed the mountain towards me. When they reached a distance where they could hear me, I said to them, “Do you recognize me?” They said, “Who are you?” I replied, “I am Salamah bin Akwa’, and by the One who honored the noble face of Sayyiduna Muhammad, I can kill whichever of you I wish, and none of you can kill me.” One of them said, “Yes, it seems so.” (Then they all turned back from there, and) I had not yet moved from my place when I saw the horsemen of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) coming, who had entered among the trees. Sayyiduna Salamah says: At the front of them was Sayyiduna Akhram Asadi, behind him was Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah, and behind him was Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad Kindi. Sayyiduna Salamah says: I went and grabbed the reins of Akhram’s horse. (Upon seeing this) the robbers fled. I said, “O Akhram, be careful of them, lest they kill you before the Messenger of Allah and his companions arrive.” Akhram said, “O Abu Salamah! If you believe in Allah and the Last Day, and you are certain that Paradise is true and Hell is true, then do not stand between me and my martyrdom.” I left him, and then Akhram confronted Abdur Rahman Fazari. Akhram wounded Abdur Rahman’s horse, and Abdur Rahman struck Akhram with a spear and martyred him, then mounted Akhram’s horse. Meanwhile, the horseman of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah, arrived (when he saw this scene), and Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah struck Abdur Rahman Fazari with a spear and killed him. I kept pursuing them, and I was running on foot in such a way that I could not see any companion of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) behind me, nor even their dust, until those robbers, before sunset, came to a valley in which there was water. That valley is called Dhi Qarad, so that they could drink water from it because they were thirsty. Sayyiduna Salamah says that they...

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of Hudaybiyyah, I pledged allegiance to the right hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) along with other people and then sat aside. When the people dispersed from around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Ibn Akwa’! Why are you not pledging allegiance? I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have already pledged allegiance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do it again. The narrator asked: On what did you pledge allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that day? He replied: On death.

Abdur Rahman bin Razin says that he and his companions were going for Hajj, and on the way, they camped at the place of Rabdha. Someone told them that a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa', also lives here. We went to him and greeted him with salam. We stood up and kissed both of his palms.
