Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri once came to the house of Sayyiduna Qatadah and saw tharid made with the meat of Eid al-Adha placed in a bowl. He refused to eat it. Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Nu'man came to him and informed him that on one occasion, during Hajj, the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood and said: I had previously commanded you not to eat the meat of sacrifice for more than three days so that it would suffice for everyone. Now I permit you; now you may eat it for as long as you wish. And he said: Do not sell the meat of the hady and sacrificial animals; eat it yourselves or give it in charity, and you may also benefit from their skins. If you can feed someone their meat, then you yourselves may also eat it for as long as you wish.

He said: Hajjaj narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, he said: Abu al-Zubayr informed me, from Jabir, similar to the hadith of Zubayd from Abu Sa'id, but he did not reach all of that, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from eating the meat of sacrifice for more than three days: Once, I went on a journey, and when I returned home, only a few days had passed since Eid al-Adha. My wife brought beetroot cooked with meat. I asked her where this meat came from. She replied that it was from the sacrifice. I said to her, "Did not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbid us from eating it for more than three days?" She said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) later permitted it." I did not confirm this and sent a man to my brother, Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Nu'man, who was a participant in Badr, to ask about this issue. He sent back the reply: "You may eat it; your wife is correct. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave permission to the Muslims regarding this."
