Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that I learned of a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which a certain companion had heard directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I bought a camel, put a saddle on it, and after traveling for a month, I reached the place and met the desired companion, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais. I said to the gatekeeper, "Go and tell him that Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) is at the door." He asked, "Are you the son of Abdullah?" I nodded in affirmation, so he came out dragging his clothes and embraced me. I also embraced him and said to him, "I have come to know about a hadith regarding retribution (qisas) which you heard directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I feared that before I could hear it, either you or I might depart from this world." He said, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: On the Day of Resurrection, people will be raised naked, uncircumcised, and 'buhm'." We asked about the meaning of 'buhm', and he explained, "Those who possess nothing." Then they will hear a caller's voice from very close by, saying, 'I am the true King. I am the One who will take retribution.' If any person from the people of Hell has a right over someone from the people of Paradise, he will not enter Paradise until the right is fulfilled, even if it is the retaliation for a slap." We asked, "When we will be presented before Allah uncircumcised and empty-handed, how will it be?" He replied, "There, the reckoning will be of good and bad deeds."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Among the major sins, the greatest sin is associating partners with Allah, disobedience to parents, and taking a false oath. And if even as much as the wing of a mosquito of falsehood is included in it, Allah places a mark on his heart until the Day of Resurrection.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais that the companions asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about which night to consider as Laylat al-Qadr in the month of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: The 23rd night.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Anis that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw the Night of Qadr in a dream, but then its exact date was made to be forgotten by me. However, I saw that on its morning I prostrated in water and mud. So, on the 23rd night, it rained, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the morning prayer and returned, there were traces of mud and water visible on his forehead.

Abdullah bin Abdullah Khabib says that during the time of Sayyiduna Umar Farooq, a man requested assistance from him, and he gave him something. That man said that once, in a gathering of the tribe of Juhaina, a companion of the Prophet (ﷺ), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais, was sitting with us. It was the month of Ramadan. We said to him: O Abu Yahya, have you heard anything from the Prophet (ﷺ) regarding this blessed night? He replied: Yes, once we were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) in the last part of this month. We asked the Prophet (ﷺ): O Messenger of Allah! When should we seek this blessed night? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Seek it tonight. It was the 23rd night. A man said upon this: O Messenger of Allah! In this way, it is the night before the eighth. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Not the first of the eight, but the first of the seven. Sometimes the month is complete.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and said: "It has come to my knowledge that Khalid bin Sufyan is gathering people to fight against me. At this time, he is in Bathn ‘Urnah. Go to him and kill him." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Please tell me a sign by which I may recognize him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you see him, you will feel the hair of his body standing up." So I took my sword and set out. At the time of ‘Asr, while he was still in Bathn ‘Urnah with his women who made travel easy for him, I found him. When I saw him, I found in him the description given by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I started walking towards him, then I thought that if conversation started between me and him, the ‘Asr prayer might be missed. So, while walking, I performed the prayer by making gestures for bowing and prostration. When I reached him, he said: "Who are you?" I said: "A man from among the Arabs who has heard about you and about this person (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) gathering an army against you, so I have come to you." He said: "Very good, I am engaged in this very purpose." I walked with him for a short distance, and when I gained control over him, I raised my sword over him until I killed him. Then I left from there and left his women bending over him. When I presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he saw me, he said: "This face has succeeded." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have killed him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have spoken the truth." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up with me and entered his house, and brought out a staff and gave it to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abdullah bin Unais, keep this with you." I took that staff and went out, and people stopped me and began to ask: "What is this staff?" I told them: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has given it to me and has commanded me to keep it." The people said: "Go and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it." So I returned and asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Have you given me this staff for any particular reason?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This will be a sign between me and you on the Day of Resurrection. On that day, very few people will have a staff." So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais kept it with his sword, and it always remained with him. When the time of his death came, by his command, it was included in his shroud, and we all together buried him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unais that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and said: "It has come to my knowledge that Khalid bin Sufyan is gathering people to fight against me. At this time, he is in Bathn ‘Urnah. Go to him and kill him." So I took my sword and set out, and at the time of ‘Asr, while he was still in Bathn ‘Urnah, I found him. Then I thought that if conversation started between me and him, the ‘Asr prayer might be missed. So, while walking, I performed the prayer by making gestures for bowing and prostration. When I reached him... Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith.

Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, he said: Ibn Idris narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr, from some of the children of Abdullah ibn Unais, from the family of Abdullah ibn Unais, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent him to Khalid ibn Sufyan ibn Nubayh al-Hudhali to kill him, and he was gathering people to fight the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: So I came to him at 'Urana while he was on his land, and the time of 'Asr had entered, so I feared that there would be a confrontation between me and him that would distract me from the prayer. He said: So I prayed while walking, signaling with gestures. When I reached him, I said such and such until he mentioned the hadith. Then he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and informed him of killing him, and he mentioned the hadith.
