Hadith of Al-Aqra' ibn Habis (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 15991
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِا مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنِ الْأَقْرَعِ بْنِ حَابِسٍ ، أَنَّهُ نَادَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْحُجُرَاتِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا إِنَّ حَمْدِي زَيْنٌ ، وَإِنَّ ذَمِّي شَيْنٌ , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَمَا حَدَّثَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ : " ذَاكَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aqra’ bin Habis that once he called out to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from outside the chambers. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to him. He again called out, “O Messenger of Allah!” and said, “My praise is an adornment and my criticism is a cause of disgrace and shame.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This is only for Allah.”
