Hadith of al-Harith ibn Hassan al-Bakri (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 15952
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ الْبَكْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : " قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ، وَبِلَالٌ قَائِمٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، مُتَقَلِّدٌ السَّيْفَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَإِذَا رَايَاتٌ سُودٌ ، وَسَأَلْتُ : مَا هَذِهِ الرَّايَاتُ ؟ فَقَالُوا : عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ قَدِمَ مِنْ غَزَاةٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Harith bin Hissan that we arrived in Madinah Munawwarah and the Prophet (ﷺ) was present on the pulpit, and Sayyiduna Bilal was standing before him with a sword hanging, and some black flags were also visible. I asked about these flags, so the people informed me that Sayyiduna Amr bin Aas has returned from a military expedition.
Hadith 15953
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامٌ أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ ، قَالَ : مَرَرْتُ بِعَجُوزٍ بِالرَّبَذَةِ مُنْقَطِعٌ بِهَا مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : نُرِيدُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَتْ : فَاحْمِلُونِي مَعَكُمْ ، فَإِنَّ لِي إِلَيْهِ حَاجَةً , قَالَ : فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ غَاصٌّ بِالنَّاسِ ، وَإِذَا رَايَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ تَخْفِقُ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَا شَأْنُ النَّاسِ الْيَوْمَ ؟ قَالُوا : هَذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ وَجْهًا , قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنْ رَأَيْتَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الدَّهْنَاءَ حِجَازًا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ فَافْعَلْ ، فَإِنَّهَا كَانَتْ لَنَا مَرَّةً . قَالَ : فَاسْتَوْفَزَتْ الْعَجُوزُ ، وَأَخَذَتْهَا الْحَمِيَّةُ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيْنَ تَضْطَرُّ مُضَرَكَ ؟ قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، حَمَلْتُ هَذِهِ وَلَا أَشْعُرُ أَنَّهَا كَائِنَةٌ لِي خَصْمًا , قَالَ : قُلْتُ : أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ كَمَا قَالَ الْأَوَّلُ , قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَمَا قَالَ الْأَوَّلُ ؟ " , قَالَ : عَلَى الْخَبِيرِ سَقَطْتَ ، يَقُولُ سَلَّامٌ : هَذَا أَحْمَقُ يَقُولُ الرَّسُولُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْخَبِيرِ سَقَطْتَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هِيهْ " , يَسْتَطْعِمُهُ الْحَدِيثَ , قَالَ : إِنَّ عَادًا أَرْسَلُوا وَافِدَهُمْ قَيْلًا ، فَنَزَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ بَكْرٍ شَهْرًا يَسْقِيهِ الْخَمْرَ وَتُغَنِّيهِ الْجَرَادَتَانِ ، فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى أَتَى عَلَى جِبَالِ مُهْرَةَ ، فَقَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي لَمْ آتِ لِأَسِيرٍ أُفَادِيهِ ، وَلَا لِمَرِيضٍ فَأُدَاوِيَهُ ، فَاسْقِ عَبْدَكَ مَا كُنْتَ سَاقِيَهُ ، وَاسْقِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ بَكْرٍ شَهْرًا يَشْكُرْ لَهُ الْخَمْرَ الَّتِي شَرِبَهَا عِنْدَهُ ، قَالَ : فَمَرَّتْ سَحَابَاتٌ سُودٌ ، فَنُودِيَ أَنْ خُذْهَا رَمَادًا رِمْدِدًا ، لَا تَذَرْ مِنْ عَادٍ أَحَدًا . قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ : فَبَلَغَنِي أَنَّ مَا أُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الرِّيحِ كَقَدْرِ مَا يَجْرِي فِي الْخَاتَمِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Harith bin Hassan that once I passed by an old woman at the place of Rabdhah who had been separated from Banu Tamim. She asked, "Where are you going?" I said, "To the Prophet (peace be upon him)." She said, "Take me with you, I have some work with him." When I reached Madinah, I entered the Prophet's Mosque and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was surrounded by people and a black flag was waving. I asked the people, "Is there something special today?" The people informed me that actually, the Prophet (peace be upon him) is sending Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-As with an army somewhere. I went forward and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! If you deem it appropriate, then make Hijaz a boundary between us and Banu Tamim, because it used to be so." At this, the old woman jumped forward, her vein of zeal surged, and she said, "O Messenger of Allah! Where will you compel your own Mudar?" I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! I have brought this old woman with me, how was I to know that she would start arguing with me." I seek refuge in Allah from becoming like that person as the people before said." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What did the people before say?" I submitted, "Did you ask an informed person?" But the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You narrate." Actually, the Prophet (peace be upon him) wanted to hear the whole matter. I submitted, "The people of 'Ad sent one of their men as a delegate. He stayed as a guest of Mu'awiyah bin Bakr for a month. He used to serve him wine and make the singing women sing for him. One day he set out and when he reached the mountains of Mahrah, he said, 'O Allah! I have not come to repay anyone, nor to treat any sick person, so give your servants to drink what You can give, and arrange for Mu'awiyah bin Bakr to serve for a month.' Actually, this was gratitude for the wine he drank at his place for a month. Meanwhile, black clouds came and someone called out, 'Take this cloud full of milk, and do not leave any person of the people of 'Ad thirsty.'"
Hadith 15954
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ سَلَّامُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ النَّحْوِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْبَكْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ أَشْكُو الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَرَرْتُ بِالرَّبَذَةِ ، فَإِذَا عَجُوزٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ مُنْقَطِعٌ بِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ لِي : يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ لِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَاجَةً ، فَهَلْ أَنْتَ مُبَلِّغِي إِلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ : فَحَمَلْتُهَا ، فَأَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَإِذَا الْمَسْجِدُ غَاصٌّ بِأَهْلِهِ ، وَإِذَا رَايَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ تَخْفِقُ ، وَبِلَالٌ مُتَقَلِّدٌ السَّيْفَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَا شَأْنُ النَّاسِ ؟ قَالُوا : يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ وَجْهًا , قَالَ : فَجَلَسْتُ , قَالَ : فَدَخَلَ مَنْزِلَهُ أَوْ قَالَ رَحْلَهُ فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَأَذِنَ لِي ، فَدَخَلْتُ فَسَلَّمْتُ ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ كَانَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ شَيْءٌ ؟ " , قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ , قَالَ : وَكَانَتْ لَنَا الدَّبْرَةُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَمَرَرْتُ بِعَجُوزٍ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ مُنْقَطِعٌ بِهَا ، فَسَأَلَتْنِي أَنْ أَحْمِلَهَا إِلَيْكَ ، وَهَهِيَ بِالْبَابِ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهَا ، فَدَخَلَتْ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنْ رَأَيْتَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ حَاجِزًا ، فَاجْعَلْ الدَّهْنَاءَ ، فَحَمِيَتْ الْعَجُوزُ ، وَاسْتَوْفَزَتْ ، قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَإِلَى أَيْنَ تَضْطَرُّ مُضَرَكَ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي مَا قَالَ الْأَوَّلُ : مِعْزَاءُ حَمَلَتْ حَتْفَهَا ، حَمَلْتُ هَذِهِ وَلَا أَشْعُرُ أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ لِي خَصْمًا ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ كَوَافِدِ عَادٍ , قَالَ : " هِيهْ وَمَا وَافِدُ عَادٍ ؟ " وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْحَدِيثِ مِنْهُ ، وَلَكِنْ يَسْتَطْعِمُهُ قُلْتُ : إِنَّ عَادًا قَحَطُوا ، فَبَعَثُوا وَافِدًا لَهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ : قَيْلٌ ، فَمَرَّ بِمُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ بَكْرٍ ، فَأَقَامَ عِنْدَهُ شَهْرًا ، يَسْقِيهِ الْخَمْرَ ، وَتُغَنِّيهِ جَارِيَتَانِ ، يُقَالُ لَهُمَا : الْجَرَادَتَانِ ، فَلَمَّا مَضَى الشَّهْرُ خَرَجَ جِبَالَ تِهَامَةَ ، فَنَادَى : اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَجِئْ إِلَى مَرِيضٍ فَأُدَاوِيَهُ ، وَلَا إِلَى أَسِيرٍ فَأُفَادِيَهُ ، اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِ عَادًا مَا كُنْتَ تَسْقِيهِ ، فَمَرَّتْ بِهِ سَحَابَاتٌ سُودٌ ، فَنُودِيَ مِنْهَا اخْتَرْ , فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى سَحَابَةٍ مِنْهَا سَوْدَاءَ ، فَنُودِيَ مِنْهَا خُذْهَا رَمَادًا رِمْدِدًا ، لَا تُبْقِ مِنْ عَادٍ أَحَدًا , قَالَ : فَمَا بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ بُعِثَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الرِّيحِ إِلَّا قَدْرَ مَا يَجْرِي فِي خَاتِمِي هَذَا حَتَّى هَلَكُوا . قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ : وَصَدَقَ . قَالَ : فَكَانَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ وَالرَّجُلُ إِذَا بَعَثُوا وَافِدًا لَهُمْ قَالُوا : لَا تَكُنْ كَوَافِدِ عَادٍ .
