Hadith of some of the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 15903
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ سُمَيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ النَّاسَ بِالْفِطْرِ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ ، وَقَالَ : " تَقَوَّوْا لِعَدُوِّكُمْ " , وَصَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : قَالَ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي : لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْعَرْجِ يَصُبُّ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ الْمَاءَ مِنَ الْعَطَشِ أَوْ مِنَ الْحَرِّ ، ثُمَّ قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ طَائِفَةً مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ صَامُوا حِينَ صُمْتَ ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِالْكَدِيدِ دَعَا بِقَدَحٍ ، فَشَرِبَ ، فَأَفْطَرَ النَّاسُ .
It is narrated from a Companion that in the year of the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed the people to break their fast, saying: "Gain strength for your enemy." However, the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself kept the fast. The narrator says: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) at the place of ‘Arj pouring water over his head due to thirst or heat. During this time, someone informed him: "O Messenger of Allah! When the people saw you fasting, they also kept the fast." So, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) reached the place of Kudayd, he asked for a bowl of water, drank from it, and the people also broke their fast.
