Hadith 15802
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَلْقَمَةُ الْمُزَنِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ فِي مَجْلِسٍ فِيهِ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَقَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : يَا فُلَانُ ، كَيْفَ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْعَتُ الْإِسْلَامَ ؟ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ الْإِسْلَامَ بَدَأَ جَذَعًا ، ثُمَّ ثَنِيًّا ، ثُمَّ رَبَاعِيًا ، ثُمَّ سَدِيسِيًّا ، ثُمَّ بَازِلًا " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ : فَمَا بَعْدَ الْبُزُولِ إِلَّا النُّقْصَانُ .
A man says that I was sitting in a gathering in Madinah in which Sayyiduna Umar was also present. He said to one of the people: How did you hear the Prophet (peace be upon him) describing the condition of Islam? He said: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying that the beginning of Islam was like a six-month-old goat, which has two teeth, then it gets four teeth, then six teeth, then it gets fangs. Upon this, Sayyiduna Umar said: After the fangs, the return towards loss begins.
