حَدِيثُ قُثَمِ بْنِ تَمَّامٍ أَوْ تَمَّامِ بْنِ قُثَمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ
Hadith of Qutham ibn Tamam or Tamam ibn Qutham from his father (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith 15656
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْقَلِ ، عَنْ قُثَمِ بْنِ تَمَّامٍ أو تَمَام بْن قَثم , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , قَالَ : أَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : " مَا بَالُكُمْ تَأْتُونِي قُلْحًا لَا تَسَوَّكُونَ ، لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَفَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ السِّوَاكَ كَمَا فَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ الْوُضُوءَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qutham or Tamam that once we were present in the service of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: What is the matter, why do I see your teeth yellow and discolored? Do you not use the miswak? If it were not difficult for my ummah, I would have made the use of miswak obligatory for them just as wudu is obligatory.
